Adopt-A-Window Program
Thank you to everyone who purchased windows! We sold every single one and all of them are installed in the high school. Thank you!
Walls of Windows
Dear Family and Friends of Monroe Catholic Junior-Senior High School,
Judi Grahek and Terry Cruikshank have jump-started a project to replace the windows in Monroe. “Adopt-A-Window” is underway with the goal of replacing windows in the two Monroe wings this fall.
Monroe was built in 1955-56. The modern design featured walls of windows—174 of them to be exact. Those same windows, now 60+ years old, are woefully energy inefficient. In the face of rising energy costs, the school covers many windows with blue foam each winter.
Terry Cruikshank, Class of ‘65 and owner of Hoffer Glass, saw the foam one day as he drove by the school and immediately went to work to determine how much it would cost to install triple panel-LoE glass-energy efficient windows. Judi Grahek (mother of four alum and grandmother of four current students) saw the foam, too, and was delighted to hear that Terry was doing research. She began developing a plan to raise funds for the project.
We want the school to look better and be warmer for students and teachers. It is estimated that the cost of the windows will be recouped in a little over four years with savings from fuel costs, which is great news. We are looking for your help to make this endeavor a success. There are a myriad of ways to help, including the purchase of a window or even an entire classroom wall of windows. Judi and Terry have each generously “adopted” a classroom wall which is quite a kick-off for this project.

Each replaced window or classroom will have a plaque with the donor’s name engraved. Donors may opt for “in honor of” or “in memory of” on the plaque. This is a great way to be remembered daily by the Monroe staff and students for years to come. In addition, each window adopted carries with it a chance to win a large Longaberger basket, valued at $315. The drawing will be held August 31st.
This is a project with weather constraints and we appreciate your timeliness. One never knows when the snow will fly here in Fairbanks and we would love to have a foam-free winter!
If you can help by adopting a window, call 456-7970, make a donation online, or stop by the Monroe Foundation/HIPOW Office at 718 Betty Street, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
We thank Judi and Terry for what they’ve done. Please keep this project in prayer.
With thanks,
Nancy Cook Hanson
