We celebrated National Catholic Schools Week at the end of January along with 6,524 Catholic schools nationwide. Some of the week’s highlights included all school Mass celebrated by Bishop Chad Zielinski and a prayer chain in the gym. Some of our students might tell you their favorite activity was dodgeball–faculty and staff vs. students.
ICS participated in D.E.A.R. - Drop Everything And Read. When students heard the token music over the loudspeaker, they stopped what they were doing and picked up their books. It was a joy to see students reading in the halls.
Our Monroe boys basketball teams traveled to Valdez for the annual Valdez Elks Basketball Tournament in early February. They took the title.
ICS students celebrated 100 days of school with activities ranging from crafting projects to games. Their homemade hats read, “100 days smarter.”
We held our annual open house in late February. More than 35 new families came to check out our schools. Thank you to the Knights of Columbus for serving hot dogs during the event. They were a hit!
Former NASA astronaut Leroy Chiao visited our schools for the third time. Leroy has been to space four times and completed four space walks. ICS third grade teacher Marci Ward coordinates his visits to our community.
The Monroe Academic Decathlon Team took 2nd in their division at the state tournament in Anchorage.
