Coach Joe Ribar
Monroe High School Girls Fastpitch Softball Coach Joe Ribar accepted the head coaching job in 2011 after 5 years as the Assistant.
Joe is a graduate of Immaculate Conception Grade School and Monroe Catholic High School. After graduating from St. Mary’s College in California, he decided to make his home in Fairbanks. Joe has two daughters who are also graduates of Monroe High School. In fact, both daughters played four years on the Monroe Softball Team. Joe's oldest daughter played two years of Division 2 softball before her studies became higher priority.
Joe originally began coaching in Fairbanks in the Interior Youth Basketball Program. He also spent a number of years as the JV and assistant Varsity basketball coach at Monroe in the early 1980’s.
Joe began coaching softball in 1996 when his oldest daughter decided she wanted to play. He has been involved as a coach with girls softball in Fairbanks ever since. Joe has held various positions with the Interior Girls Softball Association (IGSA) and is currently the Association President. He is also involved in the IGSA Softball Open Gym program which is held on Sunday mornings. He has coached either a Monroe or combined Monroe and other local High School summer league team since he began coaching at Monroe.
Joe is still excited about the challenge of coaching the Monroe girls. He hopes to be able to continue the legacy created by Wayne Thompson, Shane MacAffee, and Bea Merino of coaching the girls to the State Tournament. "We don't have a huge roster, but the girls' willingness to learn, compete, and maintain a terrific attitude regardless of whether we win or lose keeps me coming back to work with them," says Joe.
