What’s Your Story? Why are you here? Welcome. I chose Sarah for my student of the week because I suspect that this is probably what much of her first few days as a part of the Monroe community sounded like. We here at CSF like to think of our school family as just that, a family and we respond like families often do to each new person with excitement and curiosity. This can be a little overwhelming, but Sarah did not shy away. She embraced it. She embraced us. She stepped into a big (well, maybe not that big) new world and did so with grace, charm, and warmth. In class, Sarah is engaged and excited and willing to contribute. She works hard while also working with her classmates to make the learning more than just the getting of new information. As a teacher, this is perfect. I have a student who wants to learn and is willing to work and excel. But more importantly, Sarah also makes her classmates better. She offers help and comments, shows interests and shares her interests and helps to make the class a group experience. Needless to say, Sarah is a welcome addition to my classroom and our school, and to Sarah I say, welcome. Mr. Pruchnik ![]() Christopher Mayer exemplifies the hard work and determination needed to be successful in learning a second language. As a first year student of Spanish, Chris has gained an excellent foundation in both grammar and vocabulary. He is also helpful to his classmates and participates actively in class. ¡Excelente trabajo Chris! Mrs. Sobarzo ![]() It is Parent Teacher Conference time, February 20th and 21st. ![]() We are looking for a morning greeter for February 6th, 7th, 8th and February 15th. We need your smiling face from 7:25 a.m. until 7:55 a.m. each of these morning. You don't need to be the greeter for all of these days, but one day would be great! Please contact Kelly Hughes. ![]() Student of the Week: Maura Grahek Last week in my Freshman English Class, we were preparing for our first quiz on the Shakespeare Unit. At one point in the conversation, I joked with Maura by saying that she was the kind of kid who was such a perfectionist that she wouldn’t eat a waffle unless it had EXACTLY the same amount of syrup in each square. The way she responded surprised me, because she said to me, without missing a beat: “don’t forget the butter too!” Maura is a joy to teach. She does all the homework I assign, she is excited and curious in class, and she always has an intelligent question to ask about the particular topic we might be discussing. I appreciate and admire her desire to do her very best in whatever she happens to be undertaking. She has high expectations of herself and of those around her, but she never lets those expectations get in the way of her kindness and cheerful demeanor. She willingly helps others, and is always looking for ways to connect with both her peers and her teachers. Maura Grahek is my student of the week! -- Fr. Vance, S.J. ![]() Next week, January 30 through February 3, we will be celebrating National Catholic Schools Week along with the 6,524 Catholic schools nationwide. Here are the events for the Catholic Schools of Fairbanks. Bishop Chad Zielinski wrote a great letter about National Catholic Schools Week. He will also be celebrating Mass with us on Wednesday, February 1 at 9 a.m. in Holy Family Chapel. All are welcome to attend. |
