![]() I always find it difficult to choose just one Student of the Week. I enjoy all of my students and could write one of these for any one of them. I will choose one, however, and it is Casper Shier. Casper joined band this semester as a first year saxophonist. He had never played before, but was willing to dive right into the deep end of the pool. He has made a great deal of progress in a short amount of time and surprised me with how well he played on a recent quiz. Thank you, Jackson Footit for helping Casper get a good start. I have enjoyed working with Casper and watching him improve with each rehearsal. He has fit right into the band with his lively personality and sense of fun. I look forward to many years of music with Casper. Mr. Hudson ![]() Student of the Week - Christian Balko Christian Balko is a dedicated art student. Striving to create the very best projects he can. He gets so creative that sometimes he ends up needing to do a second project to meet the needs of the assignment. He does not seem to mind as that just means more art to make! Christian is quiet and caring and willing to assist fellow students. Should he choose to pursue art as a hobby or a profession, I am certain that there are many, many great ideas in his head just waiting to be released. My nominee for student of the week is Elizabeth Brockman. Elizabeth has been nothing but helpful to me as I have transitioned at Monroe to being Mrs. Lyles’s long-term substitute. I have had the pleasure of having Liz in both drama and English, and her positive attitude and kindness towards her classmates and me is evident in both classes. Liz is respectful and polite towards her classmates and me. She participates dutifully in discussion and brings thoughtful and intellectual comments to class. Elizabeth works very hard and thinks clearly about literature and understands it, and her passion for Shakespeare is evident. I would say she demonstrates both the Jesuit pillars of being open to growth and intellectually competent in class. Because of her strong work ethic and excellent attitude, I nominate Elizabeth Brockman for student of the week.
