![]() My second Student of the Week is Nicole Swallows. Nicole can be so darn quiet sometimes that she may not receive the recognition she deserves. Beneath that quiet facade lurks a lively mind and a wicked sense of humor. As her English teacher, I am privileged to read things Nicole perhaps divulges only in her writing. One of the more visible contributions Nicole makes at Monroe is to help create the chalk drawings on the seniors’ board in the commons. For her community service, Nicole teams up with one of Mrs. Atkins’s dogs to help ICS students with their reading. Nicole would like to become a counselor, and I’m sure that someone who is as observant and compassionate as she is would be a great one. Ms. Bristow ![]() I have chosen Nate Jankowski as my first Student of the Week because he’s been driving me crazy about it. Seriously, I believe Nate is just the right person for this honor. Even though Nate is vicious guarding Monroe’s hockey goal, there is nothing vicious about this man when you get him off of the ice. He is unfailingly respectful to his teachers and kind and patient with his classmates. During hockey and baseball season, he always turns in his homework on time. He is the epitome of the Student Athlete, making sure that the student part does not become lost in the shuffle. In yearbook, he is cheerful and agreeable, even when his advisor is freaking out. He also has a wonderful sense of humor, and if you know me, you know that if you can make me laugh, I am a happy teacher. I can’t think of why we did not make Nate student of the Week a long time ago. So, Nate, this has been a long time coming, but you do deserve it. Ms. Bristow |
