Letter to Families: Coronavirus

3/5/2020

Comments

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The Catholic Schools of Fairbanks is continuing to closely monitor the coronavirus also known as COVID-19. As of March 4, 2020 at 1100, no cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Alaska. However, as transmission occurs in more and more places around the world, it is increasingly likely that outbreaks will occur in Alaska. The Alaska Department of Health & Social Services and the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development are closely monitoring the current conditions globally, nationally, and in Alaska.

Families are strongly urged to maintain healthy, preventative behaviors that are necessary during any cold and flu season. These include, but are not limited to:
  • Avoiding close contact with people who are sick.
  • Washing hands frequently with soap and water for 20 seconds.
  • Using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that is at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.
  • Modeling and practicing proper hand washing techniques with your child[ren].
  • Avoiding touching your face, mouth, nose, and eyes to prevent the spread of germs.
  • Covering your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Staying home when you are sick.
  • Cleaning and disinfecting frequently-touched surfaces and objects, such as toys and doorknobs.
If your child is feeling sick, please do not send him or her to school. As is typical expectation, if your child is running a fever, keep him/her home until he or she is fever-free for at least 24 hours without medication.

We will continue to monitor best practices both on a state and local level. Please keep an eye out for future communication from administration.
