![]() Hello from Mrs. Halvarson and Mrs. Leslie! We are the Reading Room and Academic Center staff. Classes in pre k- 2nd grade use the Reading Room once a week to listen to stories, check out books, learn about how a library is organized and reinforce the reading skills that are taught in their classroom. There is a wide range of reading material in the Reading Room so that students can pick out books that fit their reading abilities and interests. The Academic Center houses materials for 3-12th grade. Students 3-6 will come to the AC once a week to check out books and learn how to become information literate using their iPads and the Internet. We are encouraging all students to also have a Noel Wien Library card so that they can access eBooks, references, and other materials at any time. It is one of the best features of having their own iPad. Older students come in for instruction in research and information navigation of the Internet as needed by different classes. They are welcome to check out books at any time. We have a limited budget to purchase new materials through the year and fundraise through the Fall Book Fair and a Barnes and Noble Book fair in the spring. We also accept book donations, gift cards and monetary donations made directly to the library account in the Monroe Foundation. A word about Book Donations, It is important that we offer our students up to date and current reading material. When donating non-fiction books it is helpful if they are current and not older than 5-7 years old. Our catalog of materials is available by going to the Catholic Schools of Fairbanks, Student Life. Academic Center, Destiny Catalog. We offer a free book exchange. There is a red crate in the AC that contains books for trade. Take a book, leave a book, has been hugely popular with many of our students. Please feel free to call us, stop in or email us if you have any questions regarding the CSF Library system. Peace, Kerry Halvarson khalvarsoncsf@catholic-schools.org |
