![]() Ms. Bristow has chosen Max DeMeritt as her student of the week. This is a slightly unusual choice because Max is not even in her class this year. That is the problem. Last year, Max quietly lobbed a daily pun in Ms. B’s direction, keeping her wits sharp and her spirits merry. This year, there is no Max, no daily pun, no Punmeister to keep the weeks rolling. Upon meeting Max in the hallway last week, Ms. Bristow noted that he is missed in her classroom. “I have no Punmeister!,” she lamented. Without skipping a beat, Max replied, “That sounds PUN-ishing.” This is a tribute to Max’s quiet wit and lively mind. People who possess such a well-developed sense of humor deserve some recognition. Max, just remember as you go out into the world with your priceless puns: Don’t engage in mental combat with the unarmed. And, if you want to keep your job at the calendar factory, don’t take a day off!! And one more: Don’t spell part backwards. It’s a trap. Ms. Bristow |
