Coach Frank Ostanik
Coach Frank Ostanik has been coaching basketball since 1993. Over the past 25 years, Coach O has coached in the villages of rural Alaska, at the University of Alaska, where he was an NCAA Division II assistant and head coach and finally as head coach here at Monroe Catholic.
Regardless of where Coach O has been, his teams have enjoyed great success. Coach O has the highest winning percentage of any head coach in UAF history with at least three years of coaching experience. During his tenure at Monroe, Coach O’s teams have amassed a record of 243-49 (.832) and won six Aurora Conference Championships and three 3A state titles. As the girls coach, Coach O led the girls to the Aurora Conference Championship Game and first winning record in five years. In his second year, despite losing six seniors, Coach O guided the Rams to the semifinals, before losing to the eventual Aurora Conference champions. Coach Ostanik is also well known for his abilities to teach the game. Coach O runs the highly successful Alaska Basketball Academy, which coordinates and runs inexpensive basketball camps throughout Alaska, including the two biggest camps in the state, the Alaska Basketball Academy Boys and Girls Team Camps. In 2018, these two camps alone, brought 675 boys and girls, from all across Alaska, to the Matsu Valley. Coach Ostanik and his lovely wife, Toni, have been married for 24 years and have one son, Win, who is 22 years old. |
